This was my 8th year attending the Breast Cancer Angels Luncheon at The Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach. Breast Cancer Angels is a non-profit organization that assists individuals during treatment for breast cancer. They assist women with expenses associated with normal life. Some of the expenses include rent, utilities, and medical co-pays. Their children can receive help as well, including clothing and school supplies. These are things most people take for granted, but when you are sick with cancer, receiving treatment and cannot work, the everyday expenses can add up quickly. Stress for a normal person is bad enough but when you are sick it is unimaginable. Faye Dietiker is the founder of this wonderful organization started in 2000. Faye is also a breast cancer survivor. The event started with a boutique featuring unique items, clothing, and jewelry. The vendors donate part of their proceeds to BCA. Complimentary Coffee and pastries were served during the boutique
We were pleasantly surprised to see Grayse at the boutique. We recently attended a fashion show where we had the pleasure of meeting Marie Grayse, co-founder of Grayse and St. John Knits. Click the link to see the Grayse blog from the October event. The Grayse boutique outlet was at this event and offered a variety of Grayse clothing at discounted prices
My favorite part of the boutique was the beautiful Christmas decorations that accompanied generous gift cards ranging from $250 to $500 (Apple, Amex, Macy’s just to name a few) which were raffled off at the luncheon. The Waterfront Beach Resort generously donated a getaway package valued at $1,000. A 4 pack of Disneyland tickets was up for grabs. These were just a few of the items that were donated for the raffle. Tickets were sold in packs of 10 for $20. All proceeds went to Breast Cancer Angels.
We were ushered into the banquet room around 1 pm for the luncheon. The table settings were marvelous, each included a centerpiece which was offered for sale (great fundraising idea). This year featured a beautiful white orchid.
The lunch started with a wonderful leafy green salad with pomegranates topped with a delicious balsamic based salad dressing. The main course encompassed stuffed chicken breast with roasted vegetables and potatoes. I had the vegetarian meal, a mushroom ravioli in a creamy garlic sauce which was scrumptious. Each table received two platters of mini desserts with many chocolate delights, savory carrot cake, rich cheesecake and a sweet lemon bar, enough assortment to satisfy every sweet tooth. Again, I must compliment the Waterfront Resort staff for their excellent service!
During lunch author Grace Murray gave an inspirational speech about her experiences as a child of a cancer patient. Grace’s Mom is a cancer survivor. She is a young woman who wrote a wonderful book/workbook titled “How To Survive Your Parent’s Cancer“. This book helps young people cope with their parent’s illness. Grace spoke of how she felt alone when she was young and how meeting other kids that were children of cancer-stricken parents helped her cope. Click here for book: https://amzn.to/2PgRQ3S
Overall this was a great day. We started around 10 am, shopping at the boutique, and ended lunch at 4 pm. Ticket cost for the event was $80 which included morning pastries and coffee, and a wonderful lunch. We will be back next year!
